Ever since the first exhibition that Rob Dean Art Ltd held in London in 2002 titled ‘Souza and Friends’ the company has had a close association with the works of Francis Newton Souza. As an artist Souza was tirelessly experimental in a career that spanned more than six decades and his drawings, collages and chemical alterations on paper provide an intriguing insight into Souza’s artistic process. The works included in the Delhi Art Summit focus on the period from the 1950’s to the early 1960’s when the artist lived and worked in London.

The range of styles over a period of a few years is striking and contextually places the artist firmly within the European Modernist movements but reveals the voice of a genius who was constantly experimenting and striving to push the boundaries of his artistic vocabulary beyond those of his British and European counterparts. His confident line drawings of nudes reveal a sense of humour and love of the female form that resurfaces in his works throughout his career, whilst his collages and drawings on magazine and newspaper reveal his constant urge to experiment and evolve as an artist.

Acrylic on Canvas

Recent Paintings by Vanita Gupta

October 04 - 14, 2007
The Gallery in Redchurch Street, 50 Redchurch St, London E2 7DP
Opening Times

To coincide with the Frieze Art Fair, the critically acclaimed contemporary Indian artist Vanita Gupta will exhibit at The Gallery in Rechurch Street in her first solo show in London. The exhibition is presented by the London-based Rob Dean Art Ltd and the Bombay-based Pundole Art Gallery.

Although Vanita claims to work in a completely 'non-objective' manner, her monochromatic paintings have a compelling need to be interpreted. It is an imagery that demands ones attention and requires decoding. In her recent large-scale canvases there is an echo of the traditional form of Japanese calligraphy, Sousho, merged with elements of urban graffiti.
